PHARMACOKINETICS: Rovas with the main active ingredient is spiramycin, macrolide antibiotic. At serum concentrations, the drug has a bacteriostatic effect but when reaching the concentration in the drug tissue can kill bacteria. PHARMACOKINETICS: Spiramycin is not fully absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Oral absorption is about 20 - 50% of the dose. Peak plasma concentrations are reached within 2-4 hours after ingestion. Peak blood levels after a single dose can be maintained for 4 to 6 hours. Taking spiramycin with food in the stomach greatly reduces the bioavailability of the drug. Food reduces about 70% of the maximum concentration of the drug in the blood serum and makes the time to peak slowly 2 hours. Spiramycin is widely distributed throughout the body. The drug reaches high concentrations in the lungs, tonsils, bronchi and sinuses. Spiramycin has less penetration into the cerebrospinal fluid. The average elimination half-life is 5 - 8 hours. Drugs mainly excreted in bile. After 36 hours only about 2% of the total oral dose found in urine.

PREGNANT WOMEN AND LACTATION: Spiramycin crosses the placenta, but the drug concentration in fetal blood is lower than in maternal blood. Spiramycin does not cause complications when used in pregnancy.
Spiramycin is excreted in human milk in high concentrations. Should stop breastfeeding while taking the drug.

Adults and children over 12 years: Take 3,000,000 IU, every 12 hours (1 capsule twice daily).
Prevention of congenital Toxoplasma infection during pregnancy:
Take 9,000,000 IU / day (3 capsules / day), in divided doses, orally for 3 weeks, every 2 weeks for repeated doses.
Combined or alternating with pyrimethamine / sulfonamid regimen may achieve better results.
